The versions are numbered for the history and the semi-automatic data and database update system (each change is applied between the installed version and the target version). However, always read the Upgrade chapter for instructions on upgrading.
We recommend that you regularly update to the latest version from the tarball version available in the SourceForge File section, especially if your WIKINDX is hosted on the web.
X.Y.0 is the last stable release (since 6.8.0). The Z number in X.Y.Z marks the patch level (e.g. 6.8.3 is the third patch release of 6.8.0).
Patch releases contains fixes for serious bugs and security. Only the last active stable release receives patches.
If you prefer an installation from a Version Control System (VCS), we strongly recommend that you use one of the point releases described in the README.txt file at the root of SF SVN with the trunk branch on a production server.
The trunk branch (for developers and testers) can be broken at any (and for a long) time and may damage your database.
PHP, JS, and CSS third party libraries are pre-packaged with WIKINDX sources.
Don’t forget to subscribe to the Project News section on SourceForge to be aware of all upcoming releases.
WIKINDX, the core application, and official components are developed together: templates (themes), styles (bibliographic styles), and PHP plugins.
WIKINDX comes with default template and APA style. No plugins are pre-installed. Translations are included in the core or plugins.
All components are available on the SourceForge File section for a manual installation or via the component update system embedded in WIKINDX.
A component release can cover many WIKINDX versions.
If you are a developer of components, for reasons of immaturity of the components system it is recommended that you approach and contribute to the official development team so that your components are always compatible with the latest version. If you do not, it is not guaranteed that your components will work on a later version of WIKINDX.
