Release Notes
We have prepared a Release Candidate of the next WIKINDX release: 6.18.0. Note that this beta version is not for production use. However, we would appreciate the help of dedicated WIKINDX users in testing the beta version in order to ensure that the final 6.7.1 release is of the highest quality. A beta tester should be able to set up and manage a test WIKINDX environment, ideally populated with data from their production environment. We expect the beta release period to last two(?) weeks during which bugs will be reported and fixed. If you are able and willing to beta test with us, then please send an email to sirfragalot@users.sourceforge.net and we will contact you asap.
The current CHANGELOG for v6.18.0-rc1 is:
Focus: template changes, bug fixes, improvements, maintenance
Template changes
- Template designers should take note of IMPROVEMENTS.7.e below and update their content_ideas.tpl file by looking at that file in the default template.
- Template designers should take note of IMPROVEMENTS.8 below and update their content.tpl file by looking at that file in the default template.
Improvements
- For registered users, when viewing a resource, enable toggling between viewing all users’ quotes and paraphrases or those of the current user only.
- When viewing pending registrations, change the submit button from ‘Add’ to ‘Proceed’ (it does not make sense to ‘Add’ a user one has chosen to decline).
- The WIKINDX URL is now part of the email notification admins receive for registration requests.
- When viewing the cite options of a single resource, add an icon to copy to the computer’s clipboard the output as plain text. This allows the output to be copied to a text or word processor. Note that, when copying a formatted string (e.g., APA), all formatting is stripped (user request).
- When viewing a single resource, create an icon for each quote, paraphrase, and musing to copy that metadatum’s location URL to the clipboard for pasting to an external document (user request).
- Allow users to resize in both directions rich textarea fields.
- Tidying up and improvements to the ideas subsystem:
a. Debugging and cleaning up navigation.
b. Tighten permissions. A main idea (and its comments components) can be public (viewable by any registered user), private (available only to the idea originator), or belong to a user group (the originator controls the main idea and their comments, other user group members control their comments). User group threads function as a form of discussion forum.
c. Searching ideas now not only searches on a word/phrase, but can now (independently or in combination with the word search) select ideas which are public, private, or belong to a user group.
d. In My Wikindx, registered users can set up notifications for the adding or editing of ideas which are either public or belong in user groups in which the user is a member.
e. In idea lists, if an idea has a thread of subideas available to the user, the thread is initially hidden so only the main idea is shown—an icon is provided to toggle show/hide of the thread.
- In resource lists, if a resource has metadata (quotes, paraphrases, musings) available to the user, the metadata are initially hidden so only the resource is shown—an icon is provided to toggle show/hide of the metadata.
- Tidy up and rationalize the code for email notifications of new/edited resources and ideas.
a. Loading any page is the trigger which then checks for any pending notifications in the new pending_notifications table.
b. Implement a throttle (set for one hour with CONSTANTS::WIKINDX_NOTIFY_THROTTLE) for those users wanting immediate notification. This stops multiple emails being sent when a resource or idea is repeatedly edited within the throttle period.
- Remove Admin|Users…|Merge from the menu as this function is obsolete (to merge a user, use Admin|Users…|Delete/Transfer
- Rewrite bibTeX parsing.
a. Provide better error detection and reporting for malformed bibTeX.
b. Allow for import of bibTeX entries on one line (as found on some websites exporting bibTeX).
Bug fixes
- Add missing mimetypes for use with bibutils.
- Correct minor bug when setting the timezone (e.g., differences in representation between ‘Asia/Hong_Kong’ and ‘Asia/Hong Kong’ meant the timezone was not stored).
- RIS export: SP and EP fields are now displayed on two lines instead of one. Additionally, A1 and KW fields are displayed on multiple lines.
- If deleting or transferring one user’s data to another, check the word_processor table does exist.
- Idea list: The previously stored ordering is now recalled properly.
- Admin|Delete images: Ensure ideas are also checked for used images (previously, images used in ideas were listed as unused).
- Fix a warning of PHPMailer if the fallback From address is not valid, and add a second level of fallback.
- Correct loading of JSON translation catalogs.
- When deleting a user group, ensure all ideas along with resource comments or musings belonging to the group are set to private.
- Fix several issues related to importing and deleting resources and the previous/next links when viewing a resource.
- When adding subcategories to a resource, ensure that multiple subcategories can be added.
- Ensure that viewing a basket does not change the Resources|Last List View item. To view or export the basket, use the options in Resources|Basket…
Maintenance
- Update Adminer library (v6.1.1).
- Database integrity checks when upgrading the database (especially to do with the ideas and user_groups tables).
- Bump component compatibility version of templates to 9 (new icons and CSS rules).
- Reduce number of SQL statements in various operations.
